Company Information


TA Investment Management Berhad (TAIM), a subsidiary of TA Securities Holdings Berhad (TASH) was incorporated on 17 April 1995 and commenced operations on 1 July 1996. TASH is a wholly owned subsidiary of TA Enterprise Berhad (TAE).

TAIM has more than twenty (20) years of experience in managing unit trust funds with a total of forty (40) funds currently under its management, of which nine (9) are Shariah-compliant funds and thirty-one (31) are conventional funds as at 31 December 2021. Its investment portfolio comprises a wide spectrum of funds ranging from low to high risk and caters to the different financial needs and objectives of investors.

TAIM funds are invested in both the local and international markets by an experienced investment team. These unit trust funds are distributed directly to customers as well as through appointed Institutional Unit Trust Advisers (IUTAs) and authorised consultants.

Apart from being able to tap into the expertise of the staff and financial resources of its shareholders, TAIM has a staff capacity of sixty-seven (67) persons comprising sixty-two (62) executives and five (5) non-executives.

As at 31 December 2021, TAIM has total assets of RM11.53 billion, being a combination of unit trust funds and direct mandate portfolios under its management.

The Board of Directors

Mr Ngiam Kee Tong graduated from University Malaya in 1978 with an LLB, or Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degree and was called to the Malaysian Bar on 4th January 1979. He founded Messrs Khairuddin, Ngiam & Tan in 1984 and is currently its Senior Partner. Mr Ngiam currently sits on the Board of Oceancash Pacific Berhad, Saujana Resort (M) Berhad, TA Enterprise Berhad and TA Investment Management Berhad.

Mr. Chew Chin Guan, Bobby obtained his Bachelor of Law degree with Honours from the University of Malaya in 1994. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in March 1995, whereupon he proceeded with active practice in civil litigation.
In May 1997, he joined the Company’s Legal Department and was subsequently promoted as the Manager in the Department in February 2002. In April 2003, he resumed his legal practise as a partner with Messrs G.H.Tee & Co, Advocates and Solicitors and subsequently in January 2005, as a partner with Messrs Chris Koh & Chew, Advocates and Solicitors.
He was appointed an Independent Non Executive Director of TA Securities Holdings Berhad in July 2007.

Puan Nor Asma holds a Diploma in Investment Analysis from Mara University of Technology (UiTM) and an Executive Bachelors Degree of Management from Asia E University. She joined TA Securities Holdings Berhad (TASH) in 1987 as dealer’s representative and subsequently she was appointed as Senior Manager of TASH Dealing Department in 1994. In June 2012 she was transferred to TA Futures Sdn Bhd (TAF) and appointed as the Compliance Officer of TAF and subsequently as Executive Director of Operations in 2017. Puan Nor Asma has an experience in the trading activities for institutional and retail clients both local and foreign for the local as well as overseas equities markets. She was also involved in the recruitment and training for both dealer’s representatives and remisiers of TASH.

En. Mohammed A’Reeff Bin Abdul Khalid obtained his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Kansas, USA in 1990. He started his career in the stockbroking industry with KAF-Seagroatt & Campbell Securities Sdn Bhd. He has vast experience in handling institutional and high net worth clients. From 2003 to 2005, he was actively involved in the Bumiputra Dealer’s Representative Education Fund (BDREF) in the Finance Committee which was under the supervision of the Securities Commission. He joined TA Securities Berhad (TASB) in May 2004, to develop the institutional clients’ base in line with the company’s expansion program. He was appointed as an Executive Director Dealing of TA Securities Holdings Berhad (TASH) in December 2007, a position he holds till June 2016. Thereafter, he was appointed as Executive Director of TA Investment Management Berhad on 10 June 2016.

Mr. Choo is the Chief Investment Officer and Executive Director of TAIM. He joined TAIM in July, 2005 and has more than 25 years experience in the investment and stock markets. He leads the investment team and is responsible for implementing the investment strategy of funds and managing TAIM’s portfolio. After graduation, he joined an accounting group, Coopers & Lybrand in 1987 as a senior officer. Between 1990 and 1999, Mr. Choo gained valuable knowledge and experience in the investment line working as analyst and fund manager in Singapore and Malaysia. Prior to joining TA Group, he was the Chief Investment Officer of KLCS Asset Management Sdn. Bhd. Mr. Choo holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Puan Zainab Binti Ahmad holds a Bachelor in Business Administration Degree from the Institut Teknologi Mara/University of Ohio. She started her career in June 1983 with A.T. Securities Sdn Bhd as the General Manager. She then joined TA Securities Sdn Bhd as Director in December 1987 till October 1990. She was then appointed as Executive Director of TA Enterprise Berhad on 13 March 1990, a position she holds to-date. She also sits on the Boards of TA Global Berhad, a public listed company; TA Centre Berhad, a public company which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TA Enterprise Berhad and a number of companies within the TA Enterprise Berhad Group.


Key Management Personnel

Mr. Wong is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of the company. He graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in Mathematics in 1987, then qualified as a Certified Financial Planner® professional in 2003. He has since garnered more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry while working with American International Assurance Berhad, HLB Unit Trust Management Berhad and Alliance Investment Management Berhad. This included being involved in the management of a unit trust company while serving as the General Manager of KL City Unit Trust Berhad from 2002. He took the helm at TAIM in March 2008.

Ms. Tee is the Head, Sales and Marketing for TA Investment Management Berhad. As part of her role, she oversees and responsible for driving the growth of financial institutional channel and agency channel for TAIM. She is responsible to lead and oversee all the Regional Managers across six branches. Ms Tee has more than 20 years experience in banking and asset management industry. She holds Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Degree in Finance. She is also a Capital Markets Services Representative’s Licence (“CMSRL”) holder for fund management and a Certified Financial Planner.

Mr Ch’ng started his career in the Al-Rajhi Banking & Investment Corporation as a back-room officer in 2006. He joined RHB Asset Management Sdn Bhd in 2011 as Assistant Vice President in Compliance Department where he was responsible for the compliance of the unit trust funds. In 2014, he joined KAF Investment Funds Berhad as the Designated Compliance Officer. Later, he joined in one of the Digital Investment Management and supervise the overall compliance and risk function in the company.

Ms. Alicia Khor has more than 20 years of working experience in the unit trust industry. She is responsible for the overall planning and execution of functions relating to Operations.

Investment Committee

Main Functions of the Investment Committee

The investment committee’s main responsibility is to formulate, implement and monitor the investment management policies of the investment managers to achieve the investment objective of a particular Fund. The investment committee meets at least once a month.

The investment committee members have years of experience in overseeing the investment management functions as required by the pertinent guidelines.

Dato’ Tay graduated from North East London Polytech, London in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Applied Economics and subsequently obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Economics from the University of Wales. He is experienced in finance, stockbroking and resort development. He was the Chief Forex and Money Market Dealer for D&C Bank in Kuala Lumpur. Thereafter, he joined D&C Nomura Bank as Corporate Finance Assistant Manager, BSN Commercial Bank as Treasurer and Pengkalen Securities as Senior Manager respectively.

Cik Nor Aziah joined TA Securities Holdings Berhad since 1991 and a holder of CMSL license issued by the Securities Commission under the Securities Industry Act, 1983. She holds a Bachelor of Business in Business Administration from RMIT and a Diploma in Investment Analysis from ITM. She has more than 20 years experience in stock broking industry and has been involved in both retails and institution business. She oversees the dealing activities of TA Securities Holdings Berhad and is presently the Head of Dealing Department.

Mr. Kaladher is the Head of Research of TA Securities Holdings Berhad. He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Business Administrations) degree and a MBA from the University of Malaya. He has been doing equity research for the past seventeen years and has extensive experience in market strategy and equity analysis covering oil & gas, telecommunication, technology, glove and consumer sectors. Prior to joining the stockbroking industry, he had an eight-year stint in the electronics industry holding various senior level management positions.

Investment Team

The investment team is responsible for managing, realising, investing or howsoever dealing in accordance with the investment objectives of the Funds. The investment team shall have discretionary authority over the investments of the Funds subject to the Guidelines, the relevant securities laws, the internal procedures as well as the direction of the investment committee of the Funds.

The investment team of TAIM is headed by the Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Choo Swee Kee who is also the designated person responsible for the investment management of the Funds. The team will report directly to the investment committee on a regular basis on the status of the portfolio of the Funds, proposed investment strategy and discuss matters relating to the portfolio.

Jennifer has over 20 years of experience in the fund management and stockbroking industry. She has been with TAIM as fund manager since October 2006. Prior to joining TAIM, she was in a research and portfolio management role (for both the local and regional equities) for 6 years in SJ Asset Management Sdn Bhd. This followed 3 years of experience as an investment analyst at Deutsche Securities, specialising in the Malaysian banking, finance, insurance and stockbroking sectors. Jennifer’s past experience also includes various accounting roles with JB Were & Son, one of Australia’s largest stockbroking firms for 2 years (1993-1995). Besides her experience in the equity markets, she has worked in the credit recovery divisions of Asia Commercial Finance Bhd and Kwong Yik Bank Bhd, well as with Danaharta, the national loan recovery and rehabilitation body. Jennifer was an accountant in a local property development company after securing membership with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) upon completion of her professional training at Price Waterhouse (now known as Price Waterhouse Coopers). She holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree (Honours) from University of Malaya and is a Fellow of the Australian CPA.

Mr. Lam Chee Mun is the investment manager for TAIM. He holds a Bachelor of Business (BBBA) Degree from RMIT University, Australia. His responsibilities cover fixed income credit evaluation and regional equity investment research. He works closely with the investment team on fixed income, money market and equity investment of TAIM funds. He is also involved in structured products and fund of funds investment of TAIM. Prior to joining TAIM, Mr. Lam was attached to KL Unit Trust Berhad as a compliance manager for 4 years and a local stockbroking company for 6 years.

Mr. Wong Shyh Yik, is the investment manager for TAIM. He has more than 18 years of experience in the fund management industry. Prior to joining TAIM, he was the senior investment manager of Takaful Malaysia. He also worked as an investment manager for several other asset management companies throughout his career in fund management industry. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Oklahama, USA and a Master of Business Administration from State University of New York at Buffalo, USA. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Opus Asset Management Sdn Bhd (OpusAM) is a fund management company licensed by the Securities Commission Malaysia under the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 to conduct fund management services and to deal in securities restricted to unit trusts. OpusAM is dedicated and specialised in fixed income investment, with current assets under management of around RM7 billion as at 31st December 2021.

The principal officers are also major shareholders to ensure continuity in the disciplined investment process and consistency in performance. They have extensive experience in managing regional and local investments in various asset classes including fixed income, equities, properties, and private equities. In Malaysia, OpusAM has a wide market network and strives to achieve a strong market presence in the fixed income market.


OpusAM’s clients include insurance companies, statutory bodies, state governments, government-linked companies, foundations, co-operatives, private banking institutions, universities, hospitals, individuals and family trusts.

OpusAM is responsible for managing TA Dana Afif in accordance with the investment objective of the Fund. OpusAM has discretionary authority over the investment of the Fund subject to the guidelines, the relevant securities laws, the internal procedures as well as the investment objective of the Fund and the direction of the Investment Committee of the Fund.

Shariah Adviser

Amanie Advisors Sdn Bhd (“Amanie”) has been appointed as the Shariah Adviser for TADG and TAGAAi  (“the Fund”). Amanie will advise the mechanism of the operations of the Fund’ activities to ensure that the operation of the Fund comply with Shariah requirements.

ABOUT AMANIE ADVISORS SDN BHD

Amanie Advisors Sdn Bhd (”Amanie”) is a Shariah advisory, consultancy, training and research and development boutique for institutional and corporate clientele focusing on Islamic financial services. Amanie is a registered Shariah adviser with the SC. It has been established with the aim of addressing the global needs for experts’ and Shariah scholars’ pro-active input. This will ultimately allow the players in the industry to manage and achieve their business and financial goals in accordance with the Shariah principles. Amanie also focuses on organizational aspect of the development of human capital in Islamic finance worldwide through providing updated quality learning embracing both local and global issues on Islamic financial products and services.

The company is led by Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar and teamed by an active and established panel of consultants covering every aspect related to the Islamic banking and finance industry both in Malaysia and the global market. Currently the team comprises of eight (8) full-time consultants who represent dynamic and experienced professionals with a mixture of corporate finance, accounting, product development, Shariah law and education.

Since 2005, Amanie has acquired over sixteen (16) years of experience in the advisory role of unit trusts and as 31 December 2021, there are more than 100 funds which Amanie acts as Shariah adviser.

TAN SRI DR. MOHD DAUD BAKAR
Shariah Adviser/Executive Chairman

Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Amanie Group. One of its flagship companies namely Amanie Advisors, is operating in a few cities globally. He serves as the Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) at the Central Bank of Malaysia, the Securities Commission of Malaysia, the Labuan Financial Services Authority, the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), Kazakhstan, the First Abu Dhabi Bank (UAE), and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).

Tan Sri Dr Daud is also a Shariah board member of various global financial institutions, including the National Bank of Oman (Oman), Amundi Asset Management (France), Bank of London and Middle East (London), BNP Paribas Najma (Bahrain), Natixis Bank (Dubai), Morgan Stanley (Dubai), Sedco Capital (Saudi and Luxembourg) and Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (New York) amongst many others.

Currently, Tan Sri serves as the Chairman of Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department [Majlis Agama Islam Persekutuan (MAIWP)]. In the corporate world, he is currently a member of the PNB Investment Committee. Previously, he served as a Board Director at Sime Darby Property Berhad and Chairman to Malaysia Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM). In addition, he is the cofounder of Experts Analytics Centre Sdn Bhd and MyFinB Sdn. Bhd. He also serves as the Chairman of Berry Pay Sdn. Bhd., Data Sukan Consulting Sdn. Bhd., Bio Fluid Sdn. Bhd., KAB Gold Dynamics Sdn. Bhd., Bio-Angle Vacs Sdn. Bhd., Tulus Digital Sdn. Bhd., and Amanie-Afra Halal Capital Co (Bangkok). He is currently the 8th President of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM).

In 2014, he received the “Most Outstanding Individual” award by His Majesty, the King of Malaysia, in conjunction with the national-level Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. Under his leadership, Amanie Advisors received the “Islamic Economy Knowledge Infrastructure Award” at the Global Islamic Economy Summit, Dubai 2015, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Oct 2015. On 13 November 2021, he was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) which carries the title of “Tan Sri”.

He received his first degree in Shariah from University of Kuwait in 1988 and obtained his PhD from University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom in 1993. In 2002, he completed his external Bachelor of Jurisprudence at University of Malaya.

Tan Sri’s first book entitled “Shariah Minds in Islamic Finance: An Inside Story of A Shariah Scholar” has won the “Islamic Finance Book of the Year 2016” by the Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) 2016. Then, his book on sukuk entitled “An Insightful Journey to Emirates Airline Sukuk: Pushing The Boundaries of Islamic Finance” has also won the “Best Islamic Finance Case 2017” by the GIFA 2017 in Kazakhstan. To date, Tan Sri has been authoring 28 books with different genre.


SUHAIDA MAHPOT
Chief Executive Officer

Suhaida Mahpot is the Chief Executive Officer for Amanie Advisors in Kuala Lumpur office. She holds a Bachelor of Economics (Islamic Economic & Finance) from International Islamic University Malaysia and a professional certificate of Certified Shariah Advisor and Auditor (CSAA) of AAOIFI.

She joined Amanie in 2008 and was amongst the pioneers in the company. She is a specialist in sukuk advisory and has been advising numerous sukuk locally and internationally. One of the sukuk advised by her together with Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar has been awarded as Best Securitisation Sukuk at The Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Award (2020). Apart from sukuk advisory, her primarily focus is on Shariah governance, structuring, enhancement and conversion exercises, establishment of Islamic financial entities as well as development of Islamic products. Her career in banking & financial industry started as a trainee under Capital Market Graduated Trainee Scheme organized by the SC.

Prior to joining Amanie, she worked with Affin Investment Bank Bhd since 2006 as an executive for debt & capital markets department. She completed various project financing deals using private debt securities instruments ranging from infrastructure & utilities, real estate, plantation and many others.

BIMB Securities Sdn Bhd (“BIMB Securities”) has been appointed as the Shariah Adviser for TAIF, TADO, TAICP, TAIB, TADF, TADA and TADIP (“the Funds”). BIMB Securities will provide Shariah advisory services on the mechanism of the operations of the Funds to ensure the operations of the Funds comply with Shariah requirements.

BIMB Securities is a stockbroking subsidiary of  Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, incorporated on 21 February 1994 and is licensed by the Securities Commission Malaysia (“SC”). The corporate mission of BIMB Securities is to be an active participant in a modern, innovative and dynamic Islamic capital market in Malaysia, catering for the needs of all investors, Muslims and non-Muslims, looking for Shariah-compliant investment products and services.

BIMB Securities is registered with the SC to act as a Shariah Adviser for Islamic products and services regulated by the SC, which include Islamic collective investment schemes. BIMB Securities is independent from the Manager and does not hold office as a member of the investment committee of the Funds or any other fund managed and administered by the Manager. To date, BIMB Securities is a corporate Shariah Adviser to eighty-two (82) Islamic funds including one (1) Islamic real estate investment trust.

PROFILES OF THE SHARIAH PERSONNEL

Ir. Dr. Muhamad Fuad bin Abdullah (“Dr. Muhamad Fuad”)

Dr. Muhamad Fuad, the designated person in-charge of all Shariah matters in BIMB Securities.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1977 and a Master of Philosophy Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1982, both from the University of Southampton, England. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Jayyid) Degree in Shariah from the University of Jordan in 1994 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Muslim Civilization from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1996.

He is a registered Shariah adviser with the SC and is the chairman of the Shariah advisory committee of BIMB Securities Sdn Bhd effective 1 September 2021. He sits on the Shariah committees of Public Islamic Bank Berhad and AIA-Public Takaful Berhad.

He is the non-executive chairman of Gagasan Nadi Cergas Berhad, a board member of Universiti Tun Abd Razak Sdn Bhd (“UniRAZAK”) and Medic IG Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Dr. Muhamad Fuad is a recipient of the National Book Award 2015 for his book published by IKIM entitled “The Influence of Islam Upon Classical Arabic Scientific Writings: An Examination of the Extent of Their Reference to Quran, Hadith and Related Texts”.

Nurussaádah binti Nasarudin (“Nurussaádah”)

Nurussaádah joined BIMB Securities in June 2015 as the Shariah executive and has been promoted as the head of Shariah section effective 1 May 2021. She is also the Designated Shariah Officer registered under the BIMB Securities’ Shariah adviser registration, responsible for the Shariah advisory services offered by BIMB Securities.

Nurussaádah graduated with a Bachelor of Shariah majoring in Islamic Banking and Economics from the University of Yarmouk, Jordan.

Currently, she is responsible in providing Shariah inputs on the advisory, consultancy and research functions with regards to Islamic capital market and Islamic collective investment schemes, including but not limited to, conducting surveillance on the non-financial institution activities.

She is experienced in product development and review for Islamic capital market products specifically on Islamic stockbroking services.
